Position Mission

FOCUS Missions is one of the fastest growing Catholic mission trip organizations in the world, sending thousands of participants around the world to encounter and serve poverty of all forms.  The Missions Specialist is a core member of the FOCUS Missions team who trains and coaches Mission Directors to carry out successful mission trips, serving the poor in charity and truth, while helping participants come to a deeper understanding of their own relationship with Jesus.  This includes routine meetings with the trip director, vision casting, and adherence to department processes (checklist, booking procedures, payments etc.) while constantly striving to push the Missions department toward a higher level of staff care and efficiency. In addition, Mission Specialists may have the opportunity to take on additional projects according to skillset and bandwidth to further the effectiveness of the team. Salary is based on Mission Partner Development (MPD)

Position Responsibilities

Trip Success and Management  

  • Manage comprehensive planning and logistics for 10-20 trips 
  • Direct a trip during 1 mission season  
  • Be available as an on-call director or leader during the other mission season (aka “Firefighting”) 
  • Hold regular bi-weekly meetings with directors
  • In each meeting
    • Delegate and follow up on task
    • Review checklist and coaching topics
    • Set and follow up on recruitment and fundraising goals
  • Provide support outside meetings as needed (calls, emails, texts) 

Trip Finances

  • Build initial budget and update monthly at a minimum 
  • Ensure projected funds are adequate for trip needs without excess 
  • Confirm expenses with host and set final budget no later than 2 months prior to departure 
  • Complete host payments no later than 1 month prior to departure 

Host Relationships

  • Maintain positive relationship by building rapport 
  • Review past AARs and trip one-pager at beginning of season

Administrative Support

  • Complete designated coach tasks on time and accurately 
  • Maintain accurate deadlines in the checklist 
  • Update all required platforms immediately when trip information changes 
  • Ensure trip logistics follow all departmental processes and procedures 
  • Upload all required trip information to Box and SS before departure 
  • Complete AAR, MQR and other post-trip tasks within 1 month of trip end 

Communication

  • Communicate in a timely and professional manner with all parties 
  • Respond to emails within 48 hours 
  • Respond to calls, voicemails and texts within 24 hours 
  • Convey themes of trust, safety, empathy, ownership and transparency 
  • Communicate any real or proposed policy and procedure deviations to manager immediately 
  • Communicate proactively with Managers and teammates  

MPD

  • Achieve and maintain $3,500 in monthly support 
  • Set 14:28 number and create a plan to achieve it within 12 months 
  • Adhere to Wednesday morning MPD time 
  • Send out monthly email updates by department deadline 
  • Schedule at least 1 ask per day when traveling for MPD 

Coach Training and Development

  • Prepare for each Training session by reviewing required material 
  • Attend all Training sessions 
  • Make up sessions within 1 week when missed 
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of policies and risk management 
  • Attend and participate in each Coach Development meeting 

Special Projects

  • Fulfill all requirements on time and accurately for mission director and/or leader roles 
  • Attend all required meetings associated with additional projects 
  • Complete required tasks associated with additional projects on time and accurately 

Qualifications

  • Ideally 2+ years of experience as a campus missionary  
  • Ideally Team Director qualified   

Compensation & Benefits

For this role, we anticipate paying $42,000 - $54,000/year. This range is an estimate. The actual amount may be higher or lower than the provided range and will be adjusted based on various factors including qualifications, experience, abilities, geographic location, and duties.

Personal Mission Partner Development (MPD) is one way in which FOCUS invites others to be on mission with us through the gift of their financial support. In this position, the POSITION will be expected to fundraise between $3,500-$4,500 a month to support their work with FOCUS.
